Chaloem Rattanakosin National Park (Tham Than Lot)

📍 Kanchanaburi, Si Sawat

Thailand's smallest national park hides a perfect little adventure: a forest trail that walks you straight through a stalactite cave and out the other side, then on past a chain of waterfalls — cool, green, and gloriously uncrowded.

Chaloem Rattanakosin is the smallest national park in Kanchanaburi — and one of its most charming secrets. Its star attraction, Tham Than Lot, isn’t a cave you peer into but one you walk all the way through, emerging from the darkness back into the forest to carry on toward a series of waterfalls.

Why It’s Interesting

The classic route threads through Tham Than Lot Noi, a passage of stalactites and stalagmites, then follows a shady trail to the multi-tiered Than Thong and Than Ngoen falls. It’s a proper little half-day hike — cave, jungle, and cascades strung together — yet because the park is remote and modest in size, you’ll often have the trail to yourself.

Best Time to Visit

Go from the late rainy season into the cool months (October–January), when the forest is lush, the waterfalls are flowing, and the air is comfortable for walking — November hits the sweet spot. It’s roughly 100 km north of Kanchanaburi, so set aside a full day.
