Lawa Cave (Tham Lawa)
📍 Kanchanaburi, Sai Yok
The largest cave in the Kwai Noi valley — a cathedral of stalactites and glittering crystal columns reached by longtail boat through Sai Yok National Park, often combined with a lazy river cruise from the raft houses.
Hidden in the hills above the Kwai Noi, Tham Lawa is the biggest cave in Sai Yok National Park — some 500 metres of chambers hung with stalactites, ribbed flowstone, and crystalline columns that catch the light.
Why It’s Interesting
Half the appeal is getting there: the classic approach is by longtail boat up the river from Pak Saeng Pier (or a short walk from the riverside raft houses), so the cave comes bundled with a slow, scenic cruise past jungle and floating bungalows. Inside, lit walkways lead through cool, echoing galleries where bats roost and the formations rear up overhead. It’s an easy, atmospheric counterpoint to the valley’s waterfalls and war history.
Getting There
It’s off Highway 323 deep in Sai Yok district, reached by boat from Pak Saeng Pier or on foot from nearby rafts. Fold it into a day on the water with Sai Yok Yai waterfall and a night on a floating raft house.
