Huay Mae Khamin Waterfall

📍 Kanchanaburi, Si Sawat

Erawan's wilder, quieter twin: seven tiers of butterscotch-and-turquoise cascades tumbling through deep forest on the far side of the Srinakarin reservoir — just as beautiful, a fraction as crowded.

Everyone goes to Erawan — and far fewer make it to Huay Mae Khamin, a seven-tiered waterfall of equal beauty hidden on the far side of the Srinakarin reservoir in Si Sawat. The water runs over the same mineral-rich limestone, glowing turquoise and gold as it drops from pool to pool.

Why It’s Interesting

A riverside trail links all seven tiers over a couple of kilometres of jungle, each level a broad curtain or a deep swimming basin. Because it’s a long way out — two hours by road, or a boat ride across the reservoir — you can have whole tiers almost to yourself, which is exactly what Erawan stopped being years ago. For travellers who want the famous turquoise pools without the crowds, this is the trade worth making.

Best Time to Visit

The falls are at their fullest and clearest from the late rainy season into the cool months (September–December), so November is excellent. It’s a full day out, so set off early — and consider arriving the scenic way, by boat from the Srinakarin Dam.
