Hin Dat Hot Spring

📍 Kanchanaburi, Thong Pha Phum

Natural mineral hot pools set in evergreen forest, with a cold mountain stream running right alongside — soak in the steaming water, then plunge into the cool one. The locals' favourite way to unwind on the road north.

Deep in the forest north-west of Kanchanaburi, on the long road toward Thong Pha Phum, the Hin Dat (Hindad) Hot Spring bubbles up into a set of concrete soaking pools — and, in a perfect stroke of geography, a cold, clear stream runs right beside them.

Why It’s Interesting

The water sits around a toasty 40–50°C, mineral-rich and said to be good for tired muscles and joints — and the ritual locals swear by is to soak until you’re glowing, then drop into the cold stream a step away, and back again. There’s an unfussy, community feel to the place: Thai families, monks, and the odd road-tripper, all easing into the heat under the trees. Fittingly, the spring was first cleared and used by Japanese soldiers and POWs during the Death Railway’s construction in 1943.

Best Time to Visit

Save it for the cool season (November–February), when a hot soak in cool forest air is genuinely restorative. It’s a fair drive — roughly 90 minutes beyond town toward Thong Pha Phum — so combine it with Hellfire Pass and the upper valley rather than making a special trip.
