Wat Tham Suea (Tiger Cave Temple, Kanchanaburi)

Not to be confused with Krabi’s temple of the same name, Kanchanaburi’s Wat Tham Suea sits on a hill above the Mae Klong, dominated by a vast golden seated Buddha that can be seen for miles across the plain.

Why It’s Interesting

Climb the naga-flanked staircase (or take the little funicular) to a broad terrace where the giant Buddha gazes out over an endless green grid of paddies and the dam beyond. A neighbouring temple’s Chinese-style pagoda adds another vantage. It’s serene, photogenic, and a fraction as busy as the famous riverside sights in town.

Best Time to Visit

Late afternoon, when the heat eases and the low sun gilds both the Buddha and the fields below. Dress modestly and bring water for the climb.
